Illini making up ground in 2014 class

Illinois will have to wait until the fall to catch up with the rest of the Big Ten on the field, but the Illini are starting to catch up at least in terms of numbers in the 2014 recruiting class.

Illinois picked up its second commitment of the 2014 class Monday night. It was the second pledge of the evening for the Illini.

Nick Allegretti (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) committed to the Illini, Allegretti told ESPN.com in a text message.

Cincinnati, Northern Illinois and Toledo are among the other programs to offer the 6-foot-3, 285-pound center.

Earlier Monday, defensive end Tito Odenigbo became the first commitment of the Illini's 2014 class.

With two commitments, the Illini have the fourth-most commitments in the Big Ten in 2014 behind Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan. Iowa and Michigan State also have two commitments.
