Safety Austin Stewart (Matthews, N.C./Pierce College) did not have any Division I offers as a high school senior in 2010, however he will now suit up for Texas Tech after one year at junior college, The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
Stewart chose the Red Raiders over Southern Methodist after visiting both schools the last two weeks.
"I enjoyed the college atmosphere. The coaches were great, all of them. I loved the program, loved the facilities. The chancellor (Kent Hance), I got to meet him and he was a great guy. He's the funniest man alive."
The 6-2, 200-pounder also had offers from Western Michigan, Kent State, Massachusetts, Northern Colorado, New Mexico, New Mexico State and Florida International.
