Butler Community College (El Dorado, Kan.) head coach Troy Morrell on Sunday said tight end Neil Shortell has verbally committed to Connecticut.
At 6-foot-3 and 254 pounds, Shortell was a dependable blocking back and a reliable pass-catching option for the junior college power. The sophomore was a first-team, All-Jayhawk Conference selection this season, helping the Grizzlies to an 11-1 record and a No. 2 ranking in the final NJCAA poll.
Shortell, who also received looks from Louisville, Ole Miss and Minnesota, became the Huskies’ 25th commitment. He will join Butler teammate and juco honorable mention All-American quarterback Chandler Whitmer, who signed with the Huskies during the mid-year transfer period in December and is currently taking classes in Storrs, Conn.
