Brandon Beaver (Compton, Calif./Dominguez) planned a last minute visit to California over the weekend and said the Bears are now a major player in his recruitment.
Beaver has had an on-and-off relationship with Cal this past year. At different times, he seemed high on the Bears but also said it seemed like they were slow playing him a bit as well.
“We actually talked about that,” Beaver said. “They offered me early but then I stopped hearing from them. Then when Ish [Ishmael Adams] and Kevon Seymour went elsewhere, they started to recruit me again, so I felt like a backup option. They told me they didn’t think I was interested in them because I had canceled on coming up there for a few events they had three or four times.
“So we got it worked out and now I’m very serious about Cal. I really enjoyed the visit and Cal offers a lot of opportunity away from football. The academics are great, I like the city and I’m friends with a lot of the recruits coming in. Stefan McClure was my host and unfortunately he got hurt last year and will have to take a medical redshirt, so I could play early. Cal has a lot of pluses for sure and I’m giving them a hard look for sure.”
Beaver had previously visited Arizona, Nebraska and Washington, with the Huskies holding a solid lead. The defensive back said he’ll make his announcement on Signing Day.
