Alvonte Bell happy with Stoops hire

Kentucky’s choice to hire Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is exciting news for three-star defensive end Alvonte Bell (Miramar, Fla./Everglades), according to his head coach Rodney Rumph.

“Oh yeah, I talked with Alvonte about it and he’s excited about Coach Stoops going to Kentucky,” Rumph said. “He met Coach Stoops at one of the FSU camps and always liked him a lot.”

The 6-foot-5, 218-pound Bell is currently the highest-rated verbal commit in the Wildcats' class. Bell had spoken after Joker Phillips was fired of taking official visits to West Virginia, Mississippi State and Louisville. But with Tuesday’s news of Stoops’ hiring, Rumph said Bell appears to be very solid to Kentucky.

“I think he’s committed to attending Kentucky and learning under Coach Stoops and the staff that he’s going to bring in,” Rumph added. “I think it’s a good fit for Alvonte because Coach Stoops is going to continue to develop his talent and meet his potential.”
