MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Arkansas State commitment Shaun Rupert (Montgomery, Ala./Carver) missed the news last night when the Red Wolves hired Texas offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin. He has been too busy competing at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game this week.
The three-star safety doesn’t know much about Harsin, other than the fact that he’s an offensive coach, but he plans to talk to him today.
“Texas is a big program,” Rupert said. “He’s got a really good record there, so he should be successful.”
When Gus Malzahn left Arkansas State for Auburn, Rupert was disappointed, but the move didn’t affect him too much because Malzahn was an offensive guy. Rupert is more concerned with who’s coaching the defense.
However, that doesn’t mean the Alabama native wouldn’t be interested if Malzahn gives him a call now that he’s at Auburn.
“I talked to Coach [Rhett] Lashlee, and I know they’re coming to watch me play on Saturday,” Rupert said. “I guess we’ll go from there. It would be a great thing if they were to offer.”
At this point, Rupert considers himself a soft verbal to Arkansas State. He says he’s hearing from the likes of Minnesota, Penn State and Wake Forest. The UAB coaching staff was at practice on Wednesday to watch him play.
