ATLANTA -- New Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is familiar with 2014 linebacker Kevin Mouhon (Norcross, Ga./Norcross). Jones coached his brother, Silverberry Mouhon, while at Cincinnati. When Jones took the job with the Volunteers earlier this month, he and his staff offered the younger Mouton a scholarship. It was his first offer.
“I was relieved,” Mouhon said. “I kept thinking, 'I need to get my first offer before the season’s over,' and it came. The head coach up there is from Cincinnati, and my brother goes to Cincinnati. He transferred, so that’s a big win for me and a big loss for him.”
Since the Tennessee offer, Mouhon has seen his recruitment take off. He has since picked up offers from Florida State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Wake Forest and, most recently, Georgia Tech.
Although he was sporting an Alabama hoodie around the Rising Seniors program on Friday, the offer he wants the most is Georgia. His teammate and ESPN 150 running back Alvin Kamara plans to decide between the Bulldogs and the Tide in the near future.
“Everybody keeps asking me, ‘Do you know where Alvin’s going,” Mouhon said with a laugh. “No comment for that.”
Mouhon and Kamara were part of a Norcross team that went on to win the school’s first state championship. The team also featured ESPN 150 Watch List stars Myles Autry and Lorenzo Carter. Mouhon says he’s learned from Kamara and the others when it comes to recruiting.
“It’s taught me how everything is going to be, how you’re just going to get bombarded by all of these coaches calling you and all that,” Mouhon said. “[Kamara] told me just to handle it well and be humble.”
