Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles three-star offensive lineman Jon Heck finished out a tremendous comeback season with a Class 4A state championship Friday night. The 6-foot-7, 280-pound senior spent much of the off-season dealing with a knee injury but battled through it all year.
"It was something I knew I had to do and it's just a great feeling to see it come to an end with a state championship," Heck said.
Heck committed to North Carolina over the summer before Butch Davis was fired. He said he would remain committed as the Tar Heels dealt with the coaching situation. Last week the school hired Larry Fedora and Heck said he was extremely happy with that choice.
"I've heard nothing but great things about Coach Fedora," Heck said. "One of my former teammates plays at Southern Miss and he told me that I was getting a great coach."
Heck says he's been in contact with coaches from the staff recently and remains fully committed to signing with North Carolina.
"That's the right school for me and I'm excited about playing under Coach Fedora," Heck added.
