Buckeyes, Tide or Vols for DB Vonn Bell

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Not much has changed in the last few months regarding the recruitment of ESPN 150 defensive back Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland). The 6-foot, 190-pound safety has never mentioned leaders or a concrete decision date, and with the final recruiting weeks on the horizon, his stance remains the same.

“I am going to take these officials and go from there,” Bell said while at Under Armour All-America Game registration today at Disney's Yacht Club Resort. “No one is standing out among those three right now.”

The officials -- Ohio State on Jan. 11, Alabama on Jan. 18 and to Tennessee on Jan. 25 -- will likely play a big role in his decision.

First up will be the Buckeyes, who just completed a 12-0 season with first-year coach Urban Meyer.

“I want to see the atmosphere at Ohio State again, be around the players and the coaches, ask them questions about the program and get a better feel for how they coach,” Bell said.

Speaking of head coaches, Bell is expecting a prominent one to arrive at his home in two weeks.

“It is going to be a really big experience having Nick Saban come visit me on the 14th, right before I take my official visit,” Bell said. “Me and Coach Saban, Coach [Lance] Thompson and Coach Kirby Smart are close, so we will see how it goes.”

Up last will be the nearby Volunteers, Tennessee being a school at which Bell has many friends. He insists the disappointing season will not have an effect on his decision.

“You can play good football at any program, so you just have to weigh the pros and cons of each option and take it all in,” Bell said. “I am really excited to see what Butch Jones brings to Tennessee, because he is talking a big game. He had a good season at Cincinnati, so we will see what happens when I go down on my visit.”

Bell says he will make his decision sometime right around signing day.
