Four-star ATH Thomas decommits from Tide

Four-star athlete Justin Thomas (Prattvile, Ala./Prattville) is following his heart.

All he wants is a chance to play quarterback at the next level. This 5-foot-11 and 180-pound athlete committed to Alabama many months ago with the hope at one day becoming the signal caller in Tuscaloosa. But based on recent conversations with the Crimson Tide staff, Thomas thought it would be best to chase his quarterback dreams somewhere else.

“Justin de-committed this morning,” said Jamey Debose, Prattville’s coach. “Alabama told him he was going to play defensive back, and he wants to play quarterback. Alabama was honest with him and hats off to Justin and his family for sticking with what he wants to do. Alabama and Justin left it on good terms and to be honest this is the best on both parties.”

There have been rumors for a while that Thomas is interested in Georgia Tech and the Yellow Jackets are interested in Thomas. ESPN analysts believe he is athletic enough to fit their style of quarterback in their triple option attack.

“He has been talking with some schools and Georgia Tech has certainly been one of them,” Dubose said. “I know things are going to really pick up here and he has to figure out. I can tell you that Georgia Tech, LSU and FSU are all in the mix. Then again, Florida State has Jameis Winston (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown) committed. No visits have been set yet.”

Thomas is the nation’s No. 25 ranked athlete and the No. 11 rated recruit from the state of Alabama. He helped led Prattville to a state title this season.
