Three-star running back Robert Davis (Tampa, Fla./Carrollwood Day) received his “dream” offer last week from South Florida and spent the weekend on an unofficial visit at the program.
The 5-foot-8, 170-pound senior enjoyed spending the weekend with new South Florida head coach Willie Taggart and the staff he is building.
On Sunday, Taggart added top high school coach Robert Weiner as his wide receivers coach. Weiner won four state championships at Tampa Plant in nine seasons.
“I really loved my time at USF and I got a great idea of the vision that the new coaches have for the program,” Davis said. “I have no doubt that the program is going to be successful in the years to come under coach Taggart.
“And coach Weiner is one of the greatest coaches in high school football history, so for him to join the staff is a huge plus.”
Despite Davis’ excitement over receiving the offer, he wasn’t ready to commit and probably won’t before signing day. Davis was previously committed to Cincinnati.
“I’m going to take some visits before making my final decision,” Davis said. “USF is pretty high on my list right now.”
Davis will visit Cincinnati this weekend and follow it with trips to Memphis (Jan. 18) and Boston College (Jan. 25).
