It's been a busy time for Groveland (Fla.) South Lake three-star wide receiver James Brooks. Not only has he changed positions but he's also started to narrow down his list of schools.
The 5-8, 175-pounder recently made a switch from playing slot receiver to quarterback.
“I’m really just doing what the coaches are asking me to do,” Brooks said. “They felt like they needed a switch at the position and asked me to play quarterback.
“I will always do what I can to help the team and get us some more victories.”
Brooks has also begun to narrow his choice of college programs.
“Right now I’m looking at Kent State, Western Michigan and Memphis,” Brooks said. “Those are the three programs that have been sticking out for me.”
Brooks says he’ll take an official visit to Kent State this week and will follow up with Western Michigan and Memphis over the next month.
“Kent State was the first school to offer me and it’s the program that I know the most about so I’m very excited to see what they have to offer,” Brooks said.
Brooks says a couple more schools are still contacting him.
“I think Middle Tennessee is going to offer after they get some more film,” Brooks said. “And believe it or not, Notre Dame asked for some film so that’s pretty exciting.”
Overall Brooks says he’s trying to make the recruiting process as fluid as possible and not distract him from schoolwork and playing for South Lake.
“Obviously recruiting is important but I have to stay on top of my schoolwork and I want the team to know I’m fully committed to them,” Brooks said. “I’m making it work.”
