Auburn landed its punter of the future on Tuesday with the commitment of Jimmy Hutchinson (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison).
“I just love the atmosphere and tradition at Auburn,” Hutchinson said. “The coaching staff is very welcoming. I just think it’s a great place for me.”
Hutchinson, 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, averaged 41 yards per punt this past season with a net of 38 yards. Hutchinson’s former coach, David Hines, said the Tigers are getting a player who has worked very hard at his craft.
“He has really has grown into his body and his leg strength is better,” Hines said. “Now, the ball just explodes off his foot. He had a big summer last year and did well at those kicking camps. This is an outstanding young man who is very self-motivated. He does so much on his own time and it’s been great to see him mature and grow.”
The Tigers now have three commitments for their 2013 class.
