Things heating up for Scelfo

It’s been a good season for Joe Scelfo (Bogart, Ga./North Oconee). His high school team is off to a 5-0 start and things have really been picking up for him on the recruiting front.

Things couldn’t get much better for Scelfo, a 6-foot-2, 275-pound three-star center prospect.

“We are rolling and I am playing pretty good,” Scelfo said. “I’m playing about 80 percent guard and 20 percent center. I’m a lot better than last season and just more explosive. I am finishing and getting more pancake blocks. I am just getting off the ball much better.”

Scelfo currently has 16 scholarship offers from schools like Syracuse, UAB, Western Kentucky, Tulane, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech. His latest offer was from Army.

Meanwhile, there are a handful of BCS programs showing interest and more offers could be on the way.

“Recruiting is going well and things have sped up a lot,” Scelfo said. “There is a lot more interest from some bigger schools like Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. They are telling me to be patient. I should know something from USF in the next week or so. FSU and Clemson want me to grey-shirt. Ole Miss is coming on strong. They just started recruiting me a little more. It’s been exciting and it has hit me kind of fast.”

Scelfo has been to games at Florida State (vs Oklahoma), Georgia (vs South Carolina) and USF (vs. UTEP). His trip to Tampa made a lasting impression on him regarding the Bulls.

“USF is pretty high up there,” Scelfo said. “I really liked their campus. I love how spread out things are there. I mean it’s very nice. I like the coaches and the stadium. The people are really cool. I loved it there and can see myself at USF. I am just waiting to see what they will do.”

So are the Bulls the leader for Scelfo?

“They are up there but I am not sure about being No. 1,” Scelfo said. “Syracuse is up there. I like Charlotte because of their head coach, Brad Lambert. I also like Southern Miss and South Alabama. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech could be up there, depending on whether they offer. I need to sit down with my parents and just see who offers in the end. I know that I would like to make official visits to Syracuse and USF.”
