Keeon Johnson thinking academics first

Keeon Johnson is fielding the latest wave of scholarship offers and hoping for the next.

The receiver prospect from Kannapolis (N.C.) A.L. Brown had held offers from Duke, East Carolina, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina State. Then, Notre Dame came calling.

In hopes of receiving even more scholarship offers, Johnson is in close contact with South Carolina and will visit Tennessee later this month. He said both schools seem close to offering him a scholarship.

Johnson said he'll consider academics first, followed by his ability to fit into his chosen program. The Fighting Irish's academic offerings should enhance their position.

Johnson visited South Bend earlier this month and spoke glowingly of the trip, especially about the schooling.

“In order to make a right decision, you have to buckle down and figure out what they actually do at the school and how they'll help you succeed in life,” he said.

Johnson said he plans to major in pre-med and will start to whittle down his choices this fall.
