RB Davis looking to shed small-school label

Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) running back Robert Davis wants to prove that he's as good as the running backs at the larger schools in the state.

Right now he's preparing for next weekend's IMG Regional 7-on-7 tournament in Bradenton. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound junior will be part of Team Tampa.

"I'm doing the 7-on-7 stuff and I'm also running track," Davis said. "Just doing the things necessary to stay in shape and get better."

Davis has had interest from several programs and recently received letters from an Ivy League program.

"Princeton wants me to come out to their junior day and watch their spring game," Davis added. "Iowa, Western Kentucky and Miami is always in contact with me and they are going to come and see me this spring."

Davis is excited for the attention he has received but with the difficulties of playing at a small school has made his recruitment a little more challenging.

"It's the hardest thing to overcome because we're only a 2A school and people don't take us as serious as the Armwoods and Plants out there," Davis said. "So I just want the coaches out there to see that I can play with anyone."

As a junior, Davis rushed for 1,832 yards and 25 touchdowns.
