ATH Folston to try out new position

ESPN 150 athlete Tarean Folston (Cocoa, Fla./Cocoa) will be adding a new element to his game this spring -- quarterback.

"We're using him at quarterback this spring because our regular quarterback isn't going to be eligible," Cocoa head coach John Wilkinson said. "He's going to do some different things out of the shotgun and give us a new wrinkle."

In the fall, expect Folston to spend more time at running back with Antwan Lee.

"Tarean and Antwan are going to be my guys," Wilkinson added. "There's nothing changing with that."

Miami, Notre Dame and Illinois were among the visitors at Cocoa for the first day of spring. Wilkinson said there have been over 20 programs at the school since the start of the fall evaluation period.

"They are mostly here to see Tarean for now," Wilkinson said. "And they are starting to notice a few others."

Wilkinson is working with Folston to trim his list of schools soon.

"I've talked with his father and they are hoping to get to a list of 10 by the end of the spring and maybe down to the five by the end of summer," Wilkinson said. "They are going to visit some schools in the summer and then decide which schools to take officials to in the fall."

Wilkinson is welcoming some new faces on the defensive side of the ball as well. Linebackers DeMarcus Sweeney and Adrian Franklin have both transferred in from Merritt Island and Gainesville respectively.

Two-way linemen De'Andre Barnett (6-3, 215) and Freddie Booth-Lloyd (6-2, 290) are returning defensive standouts for the Tigers.

Cocoa will play Dr. Phillips (Orlando) in a spring game on May 25.
