Latevius Rayford backed up his claim that academics were a priority in his recruitment.
The three-star receiver from Memphis (Tenn.) Central committed to Vanderbilt on Friday morning when he informed the Commodores coaches of his decision.
"They were pretty hyped," Rayford said. " They were glad I made the decision."
Rayford said he is also fond of playing in the SEC, calling Vanderbilt's offerings, "the best of both worlds".
Rayford visited Vanderbilt in February. He also had scholarship offers from Arizona State, Memphis, Purdue and Western Kentucky. Now that he's a commitment, Rayford said he'll try to convince other Memphis-area prospects to sign up with Vandy, namely his teammate, four-star defensive lineman Frank Herron.
"I'm trying to get all the top prospects," Rayford said.
The battle for Herron will be tough as he has an impressive list of scholarship offers that has consistently grown this spring.
