LB Johnson commits to South Carolina

Lithonia High School has been very good to the Gamecocks as of late, with four-star offensive lineman Joe Harris signing in 2012 and three-star linebacker Cedrick Cooper signing in the 2011 class. Now the program can officially be called a pipeline to Columbia.

David Johnson (Lithonia, Ga./Lithonia) said his former teammates played a huge role in his commitment to South Carolina.

“There was tremendous pressure from Joe and Cedrick to join them at South Carolina,” Johnson said. “I feel as though the scheme and coaching staff at South Carolina will play to my talents and allow me to reach my full potential.”

The 6-foot-1, 254-pound linebacker committed to the Gamecocks over offers from Auburn, Vanderbilt, Southern Miss, Louisville and Mississippi State. Plus, the four-star prospect had been talking to Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU.

Johnson is the 10th commitment for 2013 and second four-star commitment of the week for Steve Spurrier and his staff, as quarterback Connor Mitch (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) pledged his services to South Carolina on Tuesday.
