DB Blake McClain commits to Kentucky

Winter Park (Fla.) three-star safety Blake McClain received an offer from Kentucky during his unofficial visit to the school earlier this month and said he was instantly sold on the Wildcats. On Wednesday the 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior made it official, becoming the seventh commitment for Kentucky in the Class of 2013.

McClain's decision continues a strong month for Kentucky in the state of Florida as McClain joins three-star defensive end Alvonte Bell (Miramar, Fla./Everglades) and offensive lineman Ramsey Meyers (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview) as June commits for the Wildcats.

McClain had offers from South Florida, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Iowa State, West Virginia, Boston College and several others but they could not beat out the SEC program.

"Playing in the SEC is something that really excites me because I know I'll be going against the best players every week," McClain said. "But regardless of that I liked being around the campus and the coaching staff. Coach [Joker] Phillips is a great man and he wants his players to succeed on and off the field. It's a family atmosphere around there all the time."

The Wildcats believe McClain could play safety or cornerback in their scheme.

"They really liked my versatility and I believe I can cover anyone," McClain added. "I'm happy to do whatever they ask of me in the secondary as long as I can compete and help them win ballgames."
