2014 ATH Hall ready for big season

St. Petersburg (Fla.) Gibbs athlete Maurice Hall admitted his team's day ended earlier than he would have liked at South Florida's Sling & Shoot 7-on-7 tournament, but the rising prospect is hopeful his regular season will be better.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior has spent much of the offseason playing wide receiver in 7-on-7 tournaments but is still unsure of his best position.

"I played wide receiver at Sling & Shoot and with Team Tampa because it was the best way for me to get the most reps," Hall said. "I still like defense and I'll be playing both safety and cornerback this year as well."

Hall says he's been hearing from several different programs. He has a verbal offer from Oklahoma and has significant interest from UCF, South Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M and Iowa State. He had planned to hit more camps this summer but transportation was an issue in many cases so he put off some of those plans for next year.

"I wanted to get to the FSU camp and (Florida's) Friday Night Lights, but the FSU camp is over and Friday Night Lights might not happen this year," Hall said. "That's OK, I'm going to do them next year and probably take a lot more unofficial visits.

"I've been to South Florida and I really liked it here. Everything is brand new and nice. The coaching seems real nice, too, and it's close to home."
