2014 OL Jake Stickler ready for the show

Class of 2014 offensive tackle Jake Stickler (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) was hoping to get his name out in the public with the Hurricanes' nationally televised game against Miramar (Fla.), however the 6-foot-5, 290-pound junior had to sit out the contest with a concussion.

But with nationally ranked Miami Central coming to Bradenton on Friday, Stickler should be ready to roll.

"It's always exciting to have the opportunity to play against top competition," Stickler said. "I was pretty disappointed to have to sit out the Miramar game but I understand that it had to be done for safety purposes."

Stickler has seen plenty of early interest and said that Iowa, Nebraska and N.C. State were the first programs to contact him at the beginning of the month.

Since then several have followed.

"Most of the coaches are interested in seeing me play because they know how well-coached the players at Manatee are," Stickler added. "Plus, I get the opportunity to go against the best defensive line around every day in practice."

Manatee head coach Joe Kinnan, who has seen many top players come through the program in his 30 years at the school, said Stickler has the opportunity to be as good as any of them.

"I think Jake has a lot of potential and he's going to be a real good one in time," Kinnan said. "I'm excited about his progress."
