Ashton Shumpert will take his official visit to Georgia this weekend, the ESPN 300 athlete told ESPN on Wednesday.
It's hardly a surprise that Shumpert will take his first official visit to Athens, Ga. He spoke highly of the Bulldogs just last week, saying he grew up a fan of the program.
“Just learn a little bit about them and get to know the coaches,” the four-star prospect from Fulton (Miss.) Itawamba said this week when asked what he'd like to learn from the trip.
When asked if a favorable visit could lead to a commitment, Shumpert said, “I doubt it. Probably not.”
Shumpert said he doesn't have any other official visits planned. He also said he is still unsure what other schools he might visit. Vanderbilt seems like a likely destination at some point. Shumpert said previously he planned to take an official visit to the school.
Last week, Shumpert seemed very open-minded about his recruitment in an interview with ESPN. When asked what schools he's considering, he said every school in the SEC, Oklahoma State, Memphis and Southern Miss. He also said he plans to visit a school outside that area, perhaps Nebraska or Stanford. He said he plans to cut down his list later this fall or winter.
Shumpert is the fourth-best athlete prospect in Mississippi and the 242nd-best prospect overall in the country.
