Alabama continues to make a strong impression on Todd Kelly Jr. The school did so again this weekend.
The 2014 safety prospect from Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb visited Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Tide's 33-14 win over Ole Miss on Saturday. Kelly Jr., an ESPN Watch List prospect, knows the campus well. His sister is an Alabama sophomore cheerleader. He has been to 'Bama's campus several times.
“The atmosphere was incredible,” the 6-foot, 180-pound junior said in a text message. “I liked everything about it.”
One of the highlights of the visit was meeting with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
“He is a coach that is all about winning championships,” Kelly Jr. said. “You can tell by his demeanor that he is all about Alabama football.”
Kelly Jr. has strong ties to the SEC. Other than his sisterly connection to 'Bama, his father was a standout defensive end for Tennessee in the early 1990's. Still, Kelly Jr. is looking elsewhere. He will visit Ohio State this weekend. Conference affiliation doesn't seem to be a strong factor in his recruitment.
“Right now I'm just trying to find the school that I can best fit into as a student and a football player, so specific conference play is of mere importance right now,” Kelly stated.
Kelly already has scholarship offers from several top schools. The competition for him figures to be intense. At this point, Alabama seems to be in good position.
