Four-star wide receiver Richard Benjamin (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) will take his first official visit this weekend to Purdue.
The 6-foot, 190-pound senior says Purdue has been in the hunt from the beginning of his recruitment and he’s excited to see what it’s all about.
“I’m looking forward to learning about what’s outside of Tampa and outside of Florida,” Benjamin said. “I want to see everything, see the city, the people, the campus, the whole environment and just experience how much different it is than what I see on a daily basis.”
Benjamin says Purdue offered him early in his junior season, and while he has had them in an out of his top group, the program’s persistence was what eventually won him over.
“I watch Purdue every time they are on television for the most part,” Benjamin said. “They are a good team but they could be better with a couple of additions. Could I be part of that equation? I won’t really know until I get there, but I’m going into the visit with an open mind.”
Benjamin was committed to UCF earlier in the year, then decommitted and has taken a second look at other programs. He has been to South Florida twice on unofficial visits and says Louisville and Texas A&M will get official visits soon. He is still looking at a December graduation and early enrollment.
