Chalk up three-star safety Blake McClain (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) as another Kentucky commitment who was not surprised to hear about the pending dismissal of Joker Phillips and will reconsider his commitment to the school.
“Coach Phillips was one of the big reasons that I committed to the program,” McClain said. “He is a great man and I believe he is a good head coach and was trying to make the right moves to turn the program around.
“But I wasn’t surprised to hear the news. They have been struggling on the field.”
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior says that his commitment to Kentucky should be considered soft and he’s looking at Iowa State, Pittsburgh and Arizona as potential replacements.
McClain already has taken an official visit to Iowa State.
“I really loved everything about Iowa State,” McClain added. “It was a great atmosphere and I think it could be an excellent opportunity. I love the style of football they play there.”
McClain said he’ll take official visits to Pittsburgh and Arizona before the end of the year.
