A few big changes in the college football world could have an effect on the recruiting process that four-star athlete Will Likely (Belle Glades, Fla./Glades Central) is going through.
The 5-foot-7, 175-pound Likely says he was considering Tennessee but doesn’t think there is a fit now that head coach Derek Dooley has been dismissed.
“I had been in contact with Tennessee and I liked Coach Dooley,” Likely said. “It’s kind of disappointing to hear that he’s leaving and there will probably be some changes on the staff so it’s not likely a spot for me.”
Likely has been on an official visit to Maryland and unlike his reaction to the Dooley news, the projected cornerback seems to like the idea of Maryland joining the Big 10.
“That sounds interesting because the Big 10 schools are all good places for education," he said. “I really enjoyed my trip to Maryland and I see a good opportunity there. Seeing all the facilities and meeting with the academic advisors told me a lot about what the school has to offer.”
Likely, who has also taken an official visit to Wake Forest, isn’t sure of his next move. He says an official visit to Stanford is likely and he’s also looking at Clemson and Louisville.
He would like to focus on Glades Central’s playoff run, but with his graduation coming up in December, Likely knows there is much work to do.
“I might take an official to Clemson this weekend. I’m trying to work out the details on that this week,” Likely said. “I’m hoping to get all my officials done by the middle of December.”
Likely, who plays wide receiver and cornerback in high school, says that all remaining schools are looking at him as a cornerback.
