Three-star running back Matthew Dayes (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) was admittedly surprised that N.C. State fired head coach Tom O’Brien today.
Although the 5-foot-8, 190-pound running back didn’t know O’Brien well, he thought his track record was good enough.
“They won seven games this year and are going to a bowl so it’s surprising that this season would get him fired,” Dayes added. “We didn’t have a strong relationship or anything, but I think he’s a good coach and the staff he surrounded himself with is terrific.”
Dayes is being recruited by defensive coordinator Mike Archer and he said the coached called him earlier Sunday but he missed the call. He says he remains committed.
“As of right now I’m still solid to N.C. State and I’m not looking,” Dayes explained. “However, if a lot of changes on the staff happen I will have to re-evaluate everything.”
Dayes committed to N.C. State in June.
