Watch List QB Grier ready to commit

Junior quarterback Will Grier is set to announce his college decision.

The signal-caller from Davidson (N.C.) Day said Tuesday that he is primarily considering Florida, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Tennessee. He said he will publicly commit to his chosen school Wednesday night.

The battle for the ESPN Watch List prospect has been intense. North Carolina has placed a premium on landing the 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect, and understandably so. He would be a good fit in the Tar Heels' spread offense and figures to be one of the top prospects in North Carolina for the 2014 class.

Since he was hired earlier this year, Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora has repeatedly said in-state recruiting is the key to turning around his team. Grier would certainly help Fedora in achieving that goal.

However, Florida appears to have the edge. Grier has visited Gainesville several times and shown strong interest in the Gators. His most recent college visit was to Florida, this month.

North Carolina State and Tennessee seem to be trailing the Tar Heels and Gators. The Volunteers appeared to be in solid shape for Grier before this month's coaching changes. It would be hard to imagine that newly hired Tennessee coach Butch Jones could make up enough ground to land Grier, since Jones was hired less than two weeks ago.
