A lot of top junior college prospects will be signing Wednesday, but four-star defensive tackle Toby Johnson (College Park, Ga./Hutchinson CC) is not one of them.
Johnson, ranked No. 4 in the ESPN Juco 100, said he is keeping his options open. He is the No. 1-ranked uncommitted juco defensive product in the nation. And he has been busy. In the last two weeks, Johnson has made official visits to Georgia and Missouri. He said he liked the visit with the Tigers, but the Bulldogs are still the clear favorite.
Oklahoma has received an unofficial and an official visit from Johnson, and OU defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp visited with Johnson again last week.
Johnson confirmed he is looking to visit Mississippi State in January and said he is not sure which school will get his final official visit.
Despite suffering a torn MCL and a partially torn ACL in November, recruiting has not slowed down at all for Johnson. Hutchinson coach Rion Rhoades said the player deserves this type of attention.
“Toby is a special kid and a special player,” Rhoades said. “It’s unfortunate he had that knee injury, but there is no doubt in my mind he is going to bounce back.”
