Immediately following the Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg, Fla., five-star defensive lineman Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly) was on his way to Gainesville, Fla., to take his first official visit to the University of Florida.
The No. 7 prospect in the country had been on campus before, but he and his mother were able to spend more time with the coaching staff this time.
“I got to know the coaches and players really well, which is good, since I might be playing with them in the future,” Adams said. “My favorite part was letting them talk to my momma and letting her meet the academic tutors. I know she liked it at Florida, and she loved the people there.”
Adams was unable to participate in the UA Game because of an injured ankle, but the Gators’ staff made sure to give the 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle a couple chances to showcase his talents before he returned to Georgia.
“I hung out with No. 44 Leon Orr and played some video games,” Adams said. “I hung out with all of the coaches. I shot some hoops with Bryant Young, and I did better than him with only one foot. I don’t remember him making but like one shot.
“Then Coach Muschamp said he could throw a football further than me so we went out to the field. He took off his coat, got warmed up, got some practice throws in and threw it 38 yards. Then I just came out and threw it 58 yards. He said he did not think he was going to beat me, but he had hoped I would get nervous in the Swamp and mess up.”
Before Adams left, Florida made sure to pitch the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the country on his potential future as a Gator.
“Coach Muschamp said if I come in and do what I need to do, I could start as a freshman,” Adams said. “Coach Bryant Young told me he would make me an All-American if I came to Florida.”
Up next for Adams is an official visit to Clemson. The Tigers will have to make a strong impression on Adams, as Florida has set the bar high following his latest trip.
“The Florida visit was fun, and I had a great time,” Adams said. “I could see myself at Florida. It is a great place to be.”
