Sheldon Dawson (Memphis, Tenn./Ridgeway), who committed to Memphis last July, now claims that there is another team in front -- and that team is the SEC East champion Georgia Bulldogs.
“I am open, really, but you could say that Georgia is the team to beat,” Dawson said. “I really like the environment there. I like the defense and I like that fact that everyone plays for each other. I also love how the coaches deal and interact with the players. Plus, I think it’s a great playing opportunity for me.”
Dawson, who visited the Dawgs last month, had an in-home visit this week with UGA head coach Mark Richt and defensive backs coach Scott Lakatos.
“They came by yesterday,” Dawson said Tuesday. “It went really good. We talked about the team, the future, and academics. We covered a lot of stuff.”
Dawson has also made an official visit to Cincinnati. This month he’s scheduled to visit Ole Miss (Friday) and possibly Memphis during the final week. Dawson hopes to make his commitment a few days before national signing day, which is Feb. 1.
Dawson (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) is the No. 68 cornerback in the ESPNU 150 and the No. 28 recruit from the state of Tennessee.
