LB Larenz Bryant talks Gamecocks

Larenz Bryant sees a stout defense ahead for South Carolina.

With a recruiting class strong on defensive players, the Gamecocks' newest commitment could be correct. Plus, there's already an accomplished defense in Columbia. Bryant (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) said South Carolina could be dominant.

“Especially with Jadeveon Clowney helping us,” the linebacker said, referring to South Carolina's All-SEC defensive end. “It should be fun.”

With Bryant, South Carolina's 2013 class now has seven linebackers committed, led by Matt Rolin (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), who is rated the 79th overall prospect and seventh best outside linebacker in the nation. Bryant is rated the 288th overall prospect and 13th best inside linebacker in the nation.

“Couple of linebackers that I'll get to compete with and play with,” Bryant said of the class.

Bryant said Virginia finished second for his services, followed by Florida, then Clemson. Bryant said South Carolina just felt right, especially because his family resides nearby.

“I felt everything I needed from a school is there,” Bryant said. “The right time was now (to commit). It felt like home to me.”
