Top five uncommitted: South Carolina

More than 40 prospects in South Carolina signed with FBS programs in the 2012 class, and more than 30 already claim offers in the 2013 class. In this feature, RecruitingNation takes a look at the top five uncommitted prospects in South Carolina.

Jaylen Miller, DE, Gaffney (S.C.), 6-foot-2, 263 pound

No. 5 prospect in South Carolina

Frontrunner: Wake Forest

Darkhorse: Kentucky

Schools also in the mix: UNC, Duke, N.C. State. Georgia Tech might fall into this group if it offers.

The Latest: Miller has yet to set any officials, but plans to make a decision after making some trips this fall. The Demon Deacons have consistently made the pass-rusher a recruiting priority, and could hold the edge for his commitment right now.

D'Andre "Chocolate" Wilson, Mytrle Beach (S.C.), 5-10, 175 pounds

No. 7 prospect in South Carolina

Frontrunner: Ole Miss, Purdue, Marshall

Darkhorse: N.C. State

Schools also in the mix: Missouri

The Latest: Look for Wilson to set his official visits soon, possibly to the aforementioned five programs. While they are not listed among the frontunners at the moment, the Wolfpack could emerge as contenders due to distance from home.

Jalen Stevens, DE, Goose Creek (S.C.), 6-2, 216 pounds

No. 8 prospect in South Carolina

Frontrunner: UNC

Darkhorse: UConn

Schools also in the mix: Arizona State, Southern Miss

The Latest: Stevens has been high on the Tarheels since they gave him his first offer back in February. He is hoping to impress the staffs at schools like Vanderbilt, Clemson and Missouri with his senior film, and possibly earn an offer.

Akia Booker, WR, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes, 5-11, 185 pounds

No. 11 prospect in South Carolina

Frontrunner: Tennessee

Darkhorse: South Carolina, North Carolina

Schools also in the mix: Clemson

The Latest: There is no doubting Booker’s ability, as the three-star prospect has over 500 yards combined and seven touchdowns in three games this fall. If he can qualify, Booker will be one of the most sought after prospects come signing day. If not, look for him to take a similar path to former Palmetto State standouts Cordarrelle Patterson and Jonathan Rumph (Goodman, Miss./Holmes Community College) and become a top juco prospect.

Harold Atkinson, RB, Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Carolina Forest, 6-foot, 205 pounds

No. 13 prospect in South Carolina

Frontrunner: N.C. State

Darkhorse: ECU

Schools also in the mix: Kentucky, Indiana, Minnesota

The Latest: Atkinson is focusing on his senior season, as schools continue to evaluate him at running back, fullback and outside linebacker. ECU impressed Atkinson when he visited over the summer, but he is still hoping to earn an offer from the in-state Gamecocks.
