Defensive tackle Antonio Guerad (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) committed to UCF on Wednesday after the Knights extended him an offer earlier in the day.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior chose UCF over Kentucky and Cincinnati. He becomes the 12th member of the recruiting class of 2013.
“The program offered today but I have been looking at them for a while and they have been looking at me for a while,” Guerad said. “I took an unofficial visit there a couple of weeks ago to watch them play Florida International and I loved the campus and the people around there.”
Even though Guerad committed shortly after being offered, he said it was a tough decision.
“I really liked Kentucky and Cincinnati but it came down to being close to home,” Guerad said. “There’s something exciting about playing in front of friends and family every week and having them come out and support you.”
Guerad’s other offers included Syracuse, Iowa State, Ohio, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee and South Alabama.
UCF has been strong in the Tampa Bay area this season, grabbing four commits from Hillsborough and Pinellas County.
