Defensive back Raymond Ford (Gardena, Calif./Serra) took an official visit to SMU over the weekend and it sounds like the Mustangs have a legitimate chance to flip the UCLA commit.
Ford committed to the Bruins back in the summer. At the time, he said location and staying close to home was a big factor in his decision to commit to UCLA.
“Location won’t play a role in my decision,” Ford said. “I liked SMU a lot and distance won’t play a role in this decision. I had a great time with all the guys on the team and felt very comfortable there. I can’t really pick out one thing I liked about the visit. I loved everything.
“I have a good relationship with a lot of the players that are going to SMU, I like Coach [Adrian] Klemm a lot, and I think I could play early there as well. I don’t have any other visits set up right now but I do plan to look at some other schools before making a final decision.”
As for how solid his commitment to UCLA is at the moment, Ford was non-committal either way.
“I’m just waiting to see who the new coach will be,” Ford said. “I liked coach Neuheisel but we’ll see what happens. Right now, I like UCLA but I’m open to anyone who is recruiting me. Same for ASU, I liked them too but they need to get a new coach so I’m staying open until I see who these schools hire.”
