ASU picks up a big in-state recruit

Arizona recruits have not been all that kind to the in-state schools over the past few seasons.

In fact, of the 30 combined top-10 recruits from the past three recruiting classes in Arizona, only eight have signed with Arizona or Arizona State out of high school. But with the 2014 class, both the Wildcats and Sun Devils are on the board early, and in a big way.

Arizona struck this past January, with a commitment from the state's No. 4 recruit, athlete Cameron Denson (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic). Arizona State made its big splash on Tuesday, as ESPN 300 cornerback Tyler Whiley (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) announced his commitment.

Whiley took to twitter to post his thoughts: "I made my decision today that I will be playing college football at ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY! Proud to call myself a SUN DEVIL!"

It's likely the Arizona State staff was using caps lock to inform each other of the news as well, as Whiley is a huge addition to the Sun Devils' five-member 2014 recruiting class.

Listed as a cornerback, Whiley is being recruited as a wide receiver by Arizona State, and said he feels he will be able to make an early impact at the position.

Whiley chose Arizona State shortly after announcing his top five schools late last week. That group included Arizona, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and UCLA.
