Hawaiian DE Buckner set for weekend visit

Defensive end DeForest Buckner (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) has been trying to get out to Oregon for an official visit for the last two months. This weekend, he’ll finally get that chance.

“I’m leaving [Thursday night] for Oregon,” Buckner said. “We kept winning and made it to the state finals so I kept putting it off. I’m excited to see Oregon and they have been one of my top guys for a long time. I’ve been to the state of Oregon for The Opening but have never been to Oregon’s campus before so it should be fun.

“Next weekend, I’ll be going to Cal. Cal has the perfect combination of football and academics and I like the DL coach there, Tosh Lupoi a lot. They recruit Hawaii pretty hard so I know I’ll be comfortable there.

Buckner also has a January visit planned to UCLA and the three Pac-12 schools are the main ones he’s focusing on.

“UCLA is (Jan. 13),” Buckner said. “Hopefully they’ll have a coach in place by then. I kind of narrowed my list down to these three schools in the summer and I’m sticking with them. I don’t have a leader right now and I’ll make my decision after my last visit.”
