UCLA signs juco offensive lineman

Offensive lineman Alexandru Ceachir (Santa Monica JC, Calif.) was committed to Utah but has switched to UCLA and signed with the Bruins on Thursday. He’ll have three years to play two.

“UCLA is where I’ll be spending my next few years studying and playing football,” Ceachir said. “I still feel very bad for Utah and having to tell them I was going somewhere else. I just felt like the opportunity to play close to home near my family for a new, exciting coaching staff was too much to pass up.

“I have so much respect for Utah and that made it tough but I felt like this was the best move for me long term. I had a good relationship with Coach [Adrian] Klemm and that was a big factor too. He recruited me while he was at SMU and I know he’s a really good coach with great experience and I felt very comfortable communicating with him. He’s a nice guy and from a football standpoint, I know I’ll learn a lot from him and improve my skills.”

Ceachir took official visits earlier this month to Colorado and Utah and was also offered by Arkansas, Fresno State, Hawaii and SMU. The native of Russia is an intriguing player in that he has only played football for two years. He started off at right guard a year ago before moving to left tackle this season.

“I visited UCLA last spring but hopefully I’ll be able to get on campus again soon and see more of it,” Ceachir said. “I saw the weight room and the facilities but to be honest, every school has good facilities. I made my decision based on the coaches and the people and I think UCLA has good people and I’m looking forward to playing there.”
