Athlete Randall Goforth (Long Beach, Calif./Poly) was an early commitment to Arizona State but has opened up the recruiting process and will have several schools in for home visits over the next week.
Goforth is a four star prospect and No. 41 in the state. He established himself this year as one of the state’s premier two-way players and is getting looks at both corner and receiver. Home visits started up this week with the dead period ending and ASU was the first school in the home.
“Coach [Chris] Ball came in and it went really well,” Goforth said. “He told me he’ll be the Co-DC and will coach the DBs. ASU likes me at receiver and corner and I’ll play on either side. I don’t have a preference between the two, I just want to play whatever gets me on the field the fastest.
“I’m going to take an official visit to ASU (Jan. 20). All three of my schools, ASU, UCLA and Washington all wanted me to visit that weekend but I wanted to give it to ASU since that’s the school I was committed to and plus all my teammates are going that weekend too.”
Goforth said Hawaii will come in for a visit later today and Washington will be over Friday.
“I don’t know much about Hawaii to be honest,” Goforth said. “They’re a little behind my other three schools but I’ll listen to what they have to say. Justin Wilcox from Washington is coming by Friday and I’m looking forward to meeting him and hearing what he has to say and how I fit in there. I’ve talks to Coach Sark [Steve Sarkisian] a lot and Washington is recruiting me really hard.
“With UCLA, I’m talking with everyone. Steve Broussard recruited me at ASU and now I’m also talking with Coach Tui [Matt Tuiasosopo] and Demetrice Martin. I might visit UCLA (Jan. 13) but it’s not set in stone or anything. My birthday is January 27 so I want to go somewhere fun that weekend and I’m planning on announcing on Signing Day. Right now, I like everyone the same, it’s a toss up. I’m looking for a place that is strong academically, where I like the lifestyle and where I can play right away. I really don’t want to redshirt so that will be important.”
