Powell close to decision

Christian Powell (Upland, Calif.) took his fifth and final official visit this past weekend, to UCLA. The talented fullback could be making his decision within the next few days.

Powell had previously visited Washington, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Colorado and went into his final visit with the Buffs and Bruins leading the way.

“I had a great visit, I really enjoyed myself there,” Powell said. “My mom came with me and she loved it too. She really wants me to stay local and loves the academics at UCLA. We did the campus tour, saw the Rose Bowl, and the football facilities. UCLA is a real nice place for sure, and one of the best campuses I’ve ever seen.

“The players on the team were great with me too and treated me like I was already part of the family. I like the coaches, too, and spent a lot of time with Coach [Jim] Mora and Coach [Steve] Broussard. My major concern about UCLA coming in to the visit was how I would be used because I heard they didn’t use a fullback much. But they broke things down for me real nice. Offensively, they’ll be multiple and use a lot of different formations using a fullback. I like Broussard a lot, he’s a real cool dude and I feel like I can trust him. They don’t have a fullback on the roster, so I know I can come in and push for playing time right away.”

Powell said he has a good idea of where he wants to go but wants to take the next couple of nights to sleep on his decision and make sure he’s doing the right thing.

“I like UCLA a lot right now,” Powell said. “I want to commit as soon as possible to get this over with, but I don’t want to rush into anything either. I’m going to take tonight to sleep on it and I should be ready to make my decision in the next day or two.”
