Offensive lineman Isaiah Folasa (Corona, Calif./Santiago) committed early to UCLA but has three official visits set up and could be heading elsewhere.
Folasa is a three-star guard prospect and rated the No. 132 player in the state. He originally committed to the Bruins over offers from San Jose State, Air Force and Idaho and now has a couple of new schools in the mix.
“Colorado just offered him last week,” Santiago coach Jeff Steinberg said. “The thing with UCLA and I understand this, is they’re not 100 percent sure that Isaiah will be able to qualify there. He’ll be NCAA compliant but UCLA has higher standards so they said they still like him but also said they don’t want to put us in a position where we rule out every other school recruiting him and then we find out in late January that he can’t get in.
“So just to protect himself, Isaiah is going to take his visits and he’s set to visit UCLA this weekend. He has New Mexico State set for (Jan. 20) and Colorado (Jan. 27) but we’re trying to switch the Colorado and New Mexico State visits so he’ll visit Boulder on (Jan. 20). They said that’s their big weekend and they want him there for that so we’ll see if that can happen.”
Folasa is cousins with current UCLA commit Hiva Lutui, who will also visit Westwood this weekend. The two are very close and it will be interesting to see if Lutui remains committed to the Bruins if Folasa decides to head elsewhere.
