Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive lineman Alonzo Williams, a long time Texas A&M commitment, was expected to visit UCLA this weekend but will head to the islands instead. He took the red-eye flight to Hawaii after his basketball game Friday night.
Williams visited Washington last weekend and said he had a great time in Seattle.
“I loved it there, it was a cool place,” Williams said. “Coach [Johnny] Nansen is recruiting me, and he’s a good coach. I heard they have Tosh Lupoi coming in now, but he wasn’t there on my visit and I don’t really know that much about him to be honest. I heard he’s a good DL coach.
“I felt very comfortable there, and I can definitely see myself happy at Washington. I’m still committed to A&M, and I’m visiting there next weekend, but I have some other good options that I’m looking at now, too. I’ll make a final decision close to signing day.”
Williams said he was hoping to take a mid-week visit to UCLA next week but it doesn’t look like that will happen.
“I was going to visit UCLA but then I decided to do the Hawaii visit instead,” Williams said. "Every kid wants to visit Hawaii and see what it’s like, and I thought I could just check out UCLA next week since it’s so close to home. I talked to Steve Broussard, who’s recruiting me, and he said they couldn’t do a mid-week visit.
“I’m not sure if they were mad that I bumped them for Hawaii or what but it was disappointing because I really liked UCLA a lot. My main schools are A&M, Washington and Hawaii. I’m going to take these two visits and then I’ll decide where I fit in the best.”
