Cal lands versatile in-state athlete

Athlete Damariay Drew (Livermore, Calif.) was one of the fastest rising prospects in the region. After narrowing his choices to Cal, Oregon and Washington, Drew committed on Monday to the Bears.

“I actually narrowed it to Cal and Washington but just felt like I fit in better at Cal,” Drew said. “I was supposed to visit Oregon next week but I decided to cancel it and I’m solid with Cal. My visit to Oregon was actually this past weekend but they wanted to move it and the more I thought about, I just realized Cal was where I wanted to be.

“I had a great home visit with the Cal coaching staff Sunday night and they laid everything out for me. They were saying they wanted me as an athlete but now they’re safety/nickelback and I’m comfortable with that. The fact that Cal is close to home and has great academic support, it was just too much to pass up.”

Drew took an official visit to Washington and will take his official visit to Cal this coming weekend. As a senior, he rushed for 1,291 yards and 17 touchdowns to go with 79 tackles and three sacks on defense.
