Kamautule gets news he was waiting for

Luke Kamautule (Honolulu, Hawaii./Punahou) committed earlier in the year to Stanford but with Cardinal prospects, that’s only half the battle. Even the football prospects have to be accepted into the school like all regular students and with just a week to go before signing day, Kamautule got the news he was waiting for Wednesday.

“Coach [David] Shaw called me and told me I was in,” Kamautule said. “They sent a letter as well and I can’t tell you how relieved I was to find out. I literally felt like there was a huge weight on my back and when I got that call, it felt like the weight was lifted off.

“It was a little stressful but I was taking my visits and checked out UCLA and Washington and liked both places a lot. I was supposed to visit Colorado but I canceled that trip. I always said the other schools were backup options in case I didn’t get in to Stanford so this really clears up everything up for me.”

Every year, several of the top football players in Hawaii get together at the Sheraton Waikiki to sign their letters of intent and that’s what Kamautule plans to do as well.

“The PIAA hosts a big party for all the athletes, not just football players and we’ll have about five or six or our guys signing next Wednesday,” Kamautule said. “It’s a really exciting time for me and I can’t wait to sign my letter of intent and start getting ready for the next chapter of my life.”
