Kahlil Dawson liked the location of the campus. He liked the coaching staff. He liked the opportunity that playing at Portland State presented.
But, before he gave a verbal commitment, he wanted to make sure his family understood the decision he had already made.
So, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound defensive back (Graham, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin) joined the rest of his family in an early Monday morning road trip to Portland, Ore. to meet with head coach Nigel Burton and the rest of the Vikings’ staff.
“It was a good fit for me,” said Dawson, who gave the program a verbal commitment before heading home. “From the first time I met these coaches we just connected.”
Dawson also had an offer from Wyoming, but the location and the coaching staff at Portland State won him over.
“I love their coaching style,” he said. “I felt like they could take my game to the next level. Now that I’ve got the decision out of the way, I can concentrate on my senior season. I can try to recruit other players, try to convince them to come to Portland State.”
