Arkansas added commitment No. 11 to their 2013 recruiting class on Wednesday, as junior college linebacker Myke Tavarres (Weed, Calif./College of the Siskiyous) announced his commitment to the Razorbacks.
“I have made my decision and I am going to the University of Arkansas!!!!!” Tavares posted to his Facebook account. “GO HOGS WPS!!!”
Arizona put together a strong push for Tavarres, but a visit to Arkansas last week was enough to sway the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, who also competed in the decathlon at College of the Siskiyous and won the NorCal Community College Decathlon championship earlier this year.
Tavarres attended junior college out of Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge High School. He is the first recruit from the West Coast to verbally commit to Arkansas in this class, but if Tavarres does sign, this will be the third consecutive season the Razorbacks will have gone into California for junior college talent, after signing Chris Stringer (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Citrus College) in 2011 and Austin Flynn (Wilmington, Calif./Harbor College) in 2012.
