LB Alec Moreno commits to Nevada

Linebacker Alec Moreno (Poway, Calif./Poway) became Nevada’s second commitment in the 2013 recruiting class, when he made the call for the Wolfpack on Sunday.

Sometimes in recruiting, first impressions can mean the most, and that was the case for Moreno.

“They were the first school that started recruiting me,” said Moreno, who committed to Nevada over offers from Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico State, San Jose State and UNLV. “I had a stronger connection at Nevada. I felt at home there.”

Moreno, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, said the Nevada coaches pushed hard for him and he feels he has a chance at early playing time with the Wolfpack. He’ll also have something of a head start once he arrives on campus, as former high school teammate Brian Guendling will be entering his second season at Nevada when Moreno gets there.

“He was my lifting partner and we were really close,” Moreno said. “He’s going to be my host on my official visit and it’s kind of like I’m going to be there with another brother. We played together for two years and spent so much time together.”

Moreno plans to line that official visit up sometime soon, and doesn’t see himself taking any other visits.

“I want to stay hard on my commitment,” Moreno said. “It feels really good right now. I know for most kids going through the process, it’s really hard to make a decision on where they are going to go for the next four or five years before they even get to their senior year. But once it’s done, it’s a big relief, knowing you have a spot and can go to the next level. Now, I can feel fully focused on my senior year.”
