Miami is offer No. 1 for 2014 TE Bryce Dixon

It would have been tough for junior receiver Bryce Dixon (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure) to get off to a much better start this season. The 6-foot-4, 228-pound wideout scored the first touchdown for the Seraphs this season, turning a short pass into a 43-yard score in a 48-0 blowout of Los Angeles Garfield. But Dixon was just getting started.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the early season, St. Bonaventure knocked off Corona (Calif.) Centennial in a televised game this past weekend. The 40-35 victory was aided largely by Dixon, who caught seven passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns, which covered 18 and 95 yards.

“I practiced real hard for that,” Dixon said. “I’m just trying to put my name on the map.”

On Monday, the great start for Dixon continued, and provided proof that his name has indeed hit the map.

“I saw my coach and he said, ‘The U wants to offer you,’” Dixon said.

The offer from Miami came as a huge surprise to Dixon, who had no previous contact with the Miami staff and as of Monday afternoon, hadn’t yet spoken to them directly. Though Dixon said he planned to call them to discuss the offer.

“I was shocked,” he said. “It means a lot. I’ve been in California for 16 years, so I kind of want to take a look out of state and see something new.”

Arizona could join the race soon, as Dixon’s teammate, running back Zach Green, is committed to Arizona and is doing what he can to push the two parties together.
