UA commit takes official visit to ASU

Two-way standout Julian Brooks (Chatsworth, Calif./Sierra Canyon) took an official visit to Arizona State over the weekend and said he loved his time in Tempe.

A three-star prospect ranked by ESPNU as the No. 53 WR in the nation, Brooks was an early commit to Arizona as a receiver, but he said he’s being recruited by the Sun Devils to play safety.

“I loved it there,” Brooks said. “The game atmosphere was great, the school was beautiful, the football program is very good and I love their defense. I met the president of the school and like his ideas and attitude about striving to be great in all facets as a university, and his actions to do so.

“I love the coaching staff, and the players were really cool as well. They like me for safety and I’m totally fine with that. They said I have a great chance to come in and play as a true freshman, and that’s definitely exciting. This was the first time I’ve ever been to ASU but I definitely enjoyed myself and felt like it would be a very good fit for me.”

Despite the strong visit, Brooks said he was never tempted to commit and is still hoping to take a few more visits.

“I’m still committed to UA,” Brooks said. “I really want to wait and see how the coaching search goes and see who they hire. I also want to take some other visits and I’m looking at setting a trip to Colorado right now. I’m not in any hurry to make a final decision here. I’m going to take my time with the process and find the best place for me.”
